I'm beginning to teach Kindergarteners about primary colors. I created a pre and post "test" to see if they've learned what I've set out to teach them.

Before beginning to teach, I asked each student to go to their seat and fill out what they thought the Primary Colors were.

After that, I read a book, showed them a short video clip and taught them how to do rotating paint. We used only the primary colors and they were allowed to paint their background however they wanted.

Kindergarteners finished their Primary Kandinsky paintings today. They began by gluing on a frame and writing their name.

They used cardboard squares to print designs into their art.

The worksheets were given back and they were given another chance to color in what the primary colors are. We got an almost 100% correct response after doing this artwork.

These artworks are really abstract beauties!!

Self-Portraits

Today Kindergarteners began working on their self portraits. We talked about facial features and drew together. Students outlined their self-portrait with sharpie when finished drawing.

Today kindergarteners worked on painting in their self portrait. 

Students finished their self portraits today. They glued on a frame and cut themselves out. I love how different and unique each looks. 

Spring Flowers

Today kindergarteners started a collage of spring cut flowers. We began by reading a book about flowers.

Students glued on a table and designed a vase after we brainstormed different ideas.

Shapes and details were added to the vase to make it decorative!

This week students worked on adding leaves and stems to their artwork.

Kinders finished their flowers today. They began by gluing on a colorful frame and added small circles of decorative papers on the insides of the flowers.

Owl Family

Owl Family

Today we began a new artwork. We started by reading a favorite book Owl Babies by Martin Waddel.

Kindergarteners began with texturing a background and adding a branch.

We then drew an owl together and they colored the head and tummy in with white pastel.

Finally, the kids cut out circles for eyes to use next week.

This week we painted the owls. We talked about the word overlapping before all the painting started. We were working on making our owl look like it has feathers and texture.

Eyes, a beak and feet were put on after painting.

Finally, we drew the three babies, Sarah Percy and Bill. We talked about drawing large, medium and small.

This week we cut out the mommy owl and glued her on the background. The babies were colored, cut and glued on as well.

The last step of these was to detail the mommy owl with more texture, add details to the eyes and add fluff to the babies.  The kids were so excited with how cute these turned out.

Winter Mittens

Today we started our mittens. I began by reading the kinders a book.

We drew white stars in the sky and painted over the stars with glitter paint. Oh, if you could've heard the squeals of delight with the paint!

Tracing the mitten and drawing in 5 lines was the final step for the day.

This week, we looked at patterns and took turns coming up with different patterns using magnetic blocks.

Kinders then outlined their mittens with sharpies and added in different patterns.

They finished up the day beginning to color in their mittens with color crayons.

Kindergarteners finished up their mittens today. They glued on a frame, finished coloring the mitten.  A "wrist" was glued on and then the mitten was cut out and glued on.

 I love how these turned out!
