Kindergarten Abstract lines

  Kindergarteners are learning how to draw lines. We practiced drawing all different kinds of lines on free draw paper. We finally met Mr. Brush and learned how to use him carefully. I put on some music and let the kiddos paint whatever kinds of lines they wanted while listening to classical music.

I introduced students to watercolor pastels and they spent their class time coloring inbetween the black lines however they chose to.

For the final week of this project, students used a brush and water to "paint " the pastels until their coloring looked like paint. 

First Grade Colorful Lines Artwork

First graders are working hard on their first project about lines. They are learning the line names and  how to draw them. They are creating a cool black and white artwork with a pop of color!

Students start out tracing a big circle and add in whatever kind of lines they like. The lines are then colored with markers. 

Adding in different lines with a sharpie is next.  

After the lines and color is complete, it's time to cut out the circle and glue onto a black frame.

iPads in the classroom

We are trying something new in the art room this year. Certain classrooms have been selected to begin using an app called Seesaw to create a digital portfolio of their artworks. Students come in with their iPads and place them in a slot which corresponds with the table color they sit at. When their art is completed they grab their iPad and take it over to the photo station to snap a picture of it. I'm amazed at how quick and easy it is for them to do!

3-D Collaborative Lines

Kindergarteners have been learning about lines. They are working on a collaborative 3-D project in which they make lines in an unconventional way. They are also learning how to use a glue bottle in the correct way. I love the way they are using their imagination to create lines and shapes.

My new chair

This summer in art camp, 32 students ages K-6 painted this chair.  It's wild, colorful and the kids all love it. Great job collaborating to paint a very unique place for me to sit!

Students often choose to read after they are finished with their art. This is a favorite spot to crack open a book!

YAM students

Youth Art Month was held this March and students from all over Minnesota enter this competition. Two students from Becker Primary were chosen to represent our school. They did a fabulous job on their art and it was an honor to be chosen for the YAM art show. Way to go Chloe Suchy and Katelyn Brower!!

Project Fun!

Kindergarten

Kindergarteners have been learning about value and texture in this project of winter trees.

First, we started by painting our background in 3 different shades of blue, adding white to each level. We also painted a sheet of paper in different green values to make our trees.

The following week, we cut out tree trunks and  cut out our trees in large triangles. We glued very carefully, making sure nothing was sticking up.

The last week, we added lines and designs to our winter trees with silver and gold pastels. Glue was added in fun patterns. Then it was over to the glitter station to add some pizzaz! The final step was to "paint" snowflakes and a blanket of snow on the ground using a Q-tip. They turned out beautiful!

First Grade

First graders have been working on creating Penguins. They started out by painting a background and drawing an iceberg with chalk pastels. The following week, they created their penguins and added them onto the iceberg. The final week was their favorite-- they got to add details to make their penguin unique. Students used fabric, paper, buttons, pom poms, beads, yarn and anything else they wanted to their penguin. They turned out so cute!!

Second Grade


Second graders have been creating an artwork based on the children's book Giraffes Can't Dance.
In this artwork, students are learning about how to create texture in their sky and grass by "drawing" with their paintbrush on wet paint.
