Dancing Giraffe

Students began working on this artwork based on the book Giraffes Can't Dance.

For the first week, we began by reading the story. We talked about texture, overlapping paints and adding several layers. Then the painting began! Kids painted and drew in texture and created the messiest tables they'd ever seen! We had a blast!

The following week, second graders started out painting a glowing moon onto their background.

Then we worked on how to draw Gerald the giraffe. He was a little tricky, and the kids didn't think they could do it. We practiced a couple of times and then I let them go. They turned out great!

This week was spent coloring, adding spots, outlining and adding details to their giraffes.

The final week was spent cutting out and gluing on Gerald. I love how different they all turned out!
