Winter Neighborhoods

You

We began this lesson learning about warm, cool and neutral color families.  I showed them different examples of artists using those color families in their art.  After looking at the art, first graders worked at putting the colors into the correct family.

For the second part of the class, the kids painted two sheets of paper, one cool and one warm to use later.

This week, we reviewed the color families. The students then got to work creating. I asked them to put on snow, one tree, three pine trees and four houses. It's amazing how fun and different they are turning out.

This week, first graders worked on adding details to their winter neighborhood. They added windows, doors, chimneys, smoke and snow.

First graders worked on finishing their winter neighborhoods today. They added a frame, detailed the houses, trees and extras with crayons and painted on some snow.

These turned out beautiful!!
