Painted Hearts

This was a fun art project to teach students about color mixing. The first week we talked about primary colors and how they make secondary colors when mixed together. We painted squares on our paper and mixed colors using only red, yellow and blue.

The second week we brainstormed lots of different kinds of lines they could use in their art. They had to make each heart different. We also made a heart tracer ( many kids this age struggle with making hearts!) and traced the heart 6 times on the painted paper. I then taught them how to detail their hearts with a fine brush and black paint.

The final week the students cut out their hearts and glued them on black paper in a creative way. The completed a small color mixing sheet and glued it to the back of their art. These sure turned out beautiful!!!
